This is a reminder that our annual school photographs will be taking place next Thursday 15th October. The format will be individual, as well as sibling photos. Please can you make sure your child is in full school uniform as usual and they bring their P.E. kit separately if needed.
Once the photos have been taken, proof cards will be given to teachers for distribution to parents. The instructions for ordering and payment of photos will be clearly printed on the proof cards and there will be a one-week window to order your photos. All orders will be delivered to ODA if ordered on time.
Prince will be running a Girls Football Club from Years 4 -6 outside on the grass during lunch play every Tuesday that will be starting next week. It would be amazing to see as many girls taking part in this opportunity to really push their love for football. If your child would like to take part, please have them come into school on Tuesdays in their PE kits.
We wanted to let families know that Mia Harris, Class Teacher for Cardiff Class, is currently unwell and in hospital. Her absence has been sudden and unexpected, and unfortunately, Mia will not be returning to school for the remainder of this term.
We have been keeping in touch with Mia and her family, and she is already looking forward to getting better, returning to school and, most importantly, visiting everyone - especially her class! We miss Mia very much and are sending her lots of love and best wishes as she focuses on getting better. We can’t wait to welcome her back when she is ready.
We will continue to keep Cardiff Class parents updated with any news regarding Mia’s return. In the meantime, a huge thank you to Tanika, April and the wider team for their care and support of Cardiff Class. We would also like to warmly welcome Kushi to the ODA team, who will be teaching Cardiff Class over the next few months.
We spoke with both Cardiff Class and Mia’s previous class, Nottingham Class, at school today so that the children were made aware and could be reassured.
Thank you, as always, for your understanding, kindness and support.
Reading and phonics are a fundamental part of your child’s learning and development, and we want to work closely with parents/carers to ensure every child has the opportunity to become a confident and successful reader. During our meetings on 6th November (see below), we will explain how Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics is taught, what your child will be learning in school and share practical ways you can support them at home.
We will also provide you with useful resources and guidance to help make reading and practising phonics at home as simple and enjoyable as possible.
We care deeply about your child’s progress, and your support makes a real difference. We strongly encourage parents/carers to attend, as this meeting will give you the knowledge and tools to support your child effectively and confidently.
Working together, we can help every child develop a love of reading and build the strong foundations they need for future learning.

Please can we ask that all children’s school bags are plain and do not have key rings, badges or other items attached to them. We have noticed that some children are becoming upset when key rings or other items attached to their bags break or fall off. This can then become a distraction and cause difficulties for them during the school day. Children are able to identify their bags through their named pegs or by having their bags on the backs of their chairs. ODA school bags also have a display window where children can put their name to help identify their belongings. We would therefore ask that key rings and other attachments are removed from school bags with immediate effect, and that bags are kept plain. We would really appreciate your support with this. From next half term, school staff will also be asking students to remove any such items if they are brought into school.
We would also like to clarify our expectations regarding Year 6 blazers. As with the rest of the school, blazers should not have badges attached to them. We recognise that this may not have been made completely clear previously, so we have given plenty of notice to allow families time to make the change. Please ensure that any badges are removed from Year 6 blazers after half term. We would really appreciate your support with this immediately. From next half term, school staff will be asking students to remove any badges from their blazers. This will help us to maintain consistent expectations across the school and avoid mixed messages for our students.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Please note: This does not include any school-approved Sunflower badge or other identification specifically provided to support a child’s SEND or individual needs. These should remain in place where they are part of the child’s agreed support arrangements.
The school nursing team will be coming in to administer the flu vaccine on 24th November and the catch-up on 10th December. This is generally done by a nose spray but they also offer the alternative gelatine-free injection if preferred.
The Vaccination Team has introduced a new online consent system this year, called MAVIS. Once your child’s details have been registered by us with the Vaccination Team, parents/carers will be able to complete the online consent process.
All parents and carers are asked to complete a consent form, whether you wish to GIVE or REFUSE consent for your child to receive the vaccination.
You can access the consent form using this link starting on Wednesday, 4th November 2026.
We would be grateful if families could complete the form as soon as possible on or shortly after 4th November so that the Vaccination Team has an accurate record ahead of their visit.
Please note that the school does not currently have access to the MAVIS consent system. The Vaccination Team will provide us with a list of children for whom consent has been given prior to the session, and their nurses will also have this information available to them on the day.
If your child is absent or does not receive their vaccination during their scheduled session on 24th November, there will be a further opportunity to receive the vaccination on 10th December.
If you have any questions about the flu vaccination, the consent process or your child’s individual circumstances, please contact the Barnet and Enfield School Vaccination Team directly on 020 8150 7505, as the school is unable to provide medical advice regarding the vaccination.
Our Voice, the Parent Carer forum for the families of children and young people with SEND living or attending school in Enfield, would like to invite you to their next Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) workshop, which they will be running as an evening online session, jointly with Enfield’s Service for Disabled Children.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) offers techniques to prevent and manage behaviours of distress and create an environment that improves the quality of life for the child/young person and their whole family.
The workshop will take place on Wednesday 4th November from 7-9 pm, and will be online via Zoom. The session is free but you must pre-book your place via Eventbrite or use the link and QR code on the flyer, or their website events page.
They will explore what PBS is, how you can use the techniques at home and how to work with the network of people around your child to enable a consistent approach.
You might also be interested in their regular 'Cuppa and Chat' sessions coming up at Ponders End Family Hub and Craig Park Family Hub, with speakers on 'Building a good relationship with your child's school' and Universal Therapies and in December, an end-of-year celebration and launch of the 2027 programme with a variety of different services represented. Information is on their website events page.
For full details of all these events, please see this flyer and the Our Voice website events page.
