Our New YouTube Channel Will Showcase What Makes ODA #ProudlyDifferent
Today, ODA officially launched our YouTube channel (@OneDegreeAcademy)—after our “soft launches” in July and October—with the goal of underscoring the “ODA Way” and why ODA remains in the top 3% of schools in the country.
Today’s content is all about previewing the deep dive videos and single-focus Shorts to come and is built around the academy’s 4 Cs (Core Knowledge, Character Attributes, Cultural Capital and Care) and STRIVE Values of Scholarship, Teamwork, Responsibility, Integrity, Value and Effort.
Whether users are a parent/carer, student, teacher or part of the wider community—there will be something for everyone:
✔️ Inspiring classroom learning and student journeys
✔️ Insight into ODA’s values and vision
✔️ Updates on school events and achievements
✔️ Behind-the-scenes glimpses of school life
✔️ Helpful content for prospective families
Please enjoy, share, subscribe and stay tuned for more content in the weeks and months to come! Have any feedback—positive, constructive or otherwise—please email it to parents@onedegreeacademy.org with the subject line “YouTube Feedback.”
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Chris, Ashlee, Melvyn and Alice for giving up their week to take Year 6 on their residential! The photos and videos show just how much fun everyone is having—check out our Instagram (@1DegreeAcademy) to see for yourself!
At ODA, we often talk about the power of moments, and it’s clear that our Year 6s are making memories they’ll remember forever.
Trips like this are only possible because our amazing staff volunteer their time—we are so grateful for their enthusiasm, care and commitment.

As part of our Character Curriculum, next week we’ll be taking part in Anti-Bullying Week, with this year’s theme being “Power for Good.”
We’ll launch the week with the return of Odd Socks Day on Monday and special assemblies for both KS1 and KS2. Throughout the week, pupils across all Key Stages will take part in a range of activities linked to this important theme, in partnership with the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
It’s important to understand what bullying really means. Bullying or harassment is the repeated use of deliberate aggression with the intention of hurting another person over a sustained period of time.
At One Degree Academy, we encourage pupils to speak openly—both in school and at home—about any negative experiences, so that concerns can be addressed quickly and sensitively. This helps us maintain a caring environment where bullying is extremely rare.
Please make sure your child wears odd socks on Monday to take part in the launch of the week. You can also follow the week’s activities and highlights on our Instagram page (@1DegreeAcademy).
Birthdays are a joyful and special time, and we love celebrating with our students! However, due to severe allergies and health and safety regulations, we kindly ask that Birthday Party Bags, sweets and treats are not brought into school.
If you'd like to mark your child’s special day in a meaningful way, we encourage you to celebrate the ODA Way by donating a book to our school library in their name. It’s a lasting gift that all our students can enjoy.
Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our school community safe and inclusive for everyone.
If your child is missing an item of clothing, please check the Lost Property area located at the main reception.
As all uniforms look the same, we kindly ask that you clearly label all of your child’s belongings with their name. This helps us return any lost items promptly—we can easily return labelled items directly to your child.
Please note that Lost Property is kept for one week only, so we encourage you to check within two days of noticing a missing item to avoid it being removed.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Thank you to everyone who has been ensuring your child arrives on time each day. As we know, even a few minutes late can mean missing out on essential learning opportunities. From handwriting practice and journaling to morning quizzing, 'Word of the Day', phonics, times tables, Maths Meetings and key messages from the teacher, these important activities help set a positive tone for the whole day.
As a reminder, all students are expected to arrive between 8:20 and 8:30am for a soft start. During this time, staff are ready and waiting, lining the homebases to warmly welcome your child and help them settle into the day.
For any child arriving at 8:30am or later, parents/carers will be required to complete a late form at the school office and your child will be marked in as late. Please accompany your late child and complete the form accurately and completely in order to ensure that your child is registered correctly.
To check your child’s class start and finish times, please visit our “School Day” page on our website.
In response to ongoing concerns raised about the roads and parking, we are working with the Department for Education to help keep the roads safe and prevent inappropriate parking. The Department for Education has asked us to remind parents it was part of the school’s planning conditions that there is no pick-up and drop-off around the school site. To support safe use of the roads, the department has contracted a parking warden to monitor the roads. We hope this helps the situation and makes the roads safer.
