🏫 Nursery (2-3 and 3-4) - Limited Mid-Term Spots Available

In unusual circumstances, we now have a limited number of mid-term spaces open for an Autumn 2 start in our Nursery Classes (2-3 and 3-4). These are only available as transfer places, i.e. if your child is currently attending a Nursery elsewhere and would like to move to ODA before January. Your Nursery code would need to be checked and validated first before any spot would be offered. Places will be allocated according to our Admissions Policy.

You can apply for a mid-term Nursery (2-3 or 3-4) spot through this application form by Tuesday, 6th October 2026.

🏐 Y5 & Y6 Netball Team Trials

We’re excited that on Friday 9th October we’ll be having our Netball team trial for our teammates in Years 5 & 6. This is an opportunity to represent the school by participating in competitive netball games against other schools if selected and have regular weekly training sessions. The trial will take place on the MUGA at KS2 lunch time. If your child would like to take part, please ensure they come into school in their PE kit.

🔤 Phonics Meetings - Reception & Year 1 - 6 November

Reading and phonics are a fundamental part of your child’s learning and development, and we want to work closely with parents/carers to ensure every child has the opportunity to become a confident and successful reader. During our meetings on 6th November (see below), we will explain how Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics is taught, what your child will be learning in school and share practical ways you can support them at home.

We will also provide you with useful resources and guidance to help make reading and practising phonics at home as simple and enjoyable as possible.

We care deeply about your child’s progress, and your support makes a real difference. We strongly encourage parents/carers to attend, as this meeting will give you the knowledge and tools to support your child effectively and confidently.

Working together, we can help every child develop a love of reading and build the strong foundations they need for future learning.

🦺 Behaviour Standards - After Collection

Once children have been collected from school, parents and carers are responsible for supervising their children while they remain on the school grounds. Please ensure that children are closely supervised and reminded of the expected standards of behaviour.

We have recently seen some behaviour after school that is causing damage to our school environment and equipment. Some of the plants that our students have carefully planted and looked after have been damaged, and students have also been climbing on the goal nets, resulting in damage to the nets.

These are behaviours that we would not allow during the school day, and we expect the same standards of behaviour to be maintained after school.

We ask all parents and carers to actively supervise their children after collection and ensure they respect the school environment, other students’ work and school equipment.

💜 Uniform Standards

Bags – Whole School

Please can we ask that all children’s school bags are plain and do not have key rings, badges or other items attached to them. We have noticed that some children are becoming upset when key rings or other items attached to their bags break or fall off. This can then become a distraction and cause difficulties for them during the school day. Children are able to identify their bags through their named pegs or by having their bags on the backs of their chairs. ODA school bags also have a display window where children can put their name to help identify their belongings. We would therefore ask that key rings and other attachments are removed from school bags with immediate effect, and that bags are kept plain. We would really appreciate your support with this. From next half term, school staff will also be asking students to remove any such items if they are brought into school.

Year 6 Blazers

We would also like to clarify our expectations regarding Year 6 blazers. As with the rest of the school, blazers should not have badges attached to them. We recognise that this may not have been made completely clear previously, so we have given plenty of notice to allow families time to make the change. Please ensure that any badges are removed from Year 6 blazers after half term. We would really appreciate your support with this immediately. From next half term, school staff will be asking students to remove any badges from their blazers. This will help us to maintain consistent expectations across the school and avoid mixed messages for our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Please note: This does not include any school-approved Sunflower badge or other identification specifically provided to support a child’s SEND or individual needs. These should remain in place where they are part of the child’s agreed support arrangements.

👩🏽‍⚕️ Flu Immunisations for Students in Reception through Y6

The school nursing team will be coming in to administer the flu vaccine on 24th November and the catch-up on 10th December. This is generally done by a nose spray but they also offer the alternative gelatine-free injection if preferred.

Consent – action required for all families

The Vaccination Team has introduced a new online consent system this year, called MAVIS. Once your child’s details have been registered by us with the Vaccination Team, parents/carers will be able to complete the online consent process.

All parents and carers are asked to complete a consent form, whether you wish to GIVE or REFUSE consent for your child to receive the vaccination.

You can access the consent form using this link starting on Wednesday, 4th November 2026.

We would be grateful if families could complete the form as soon as possible on or shortly after 4th November so that the Vaccination Team has an accurate record ahead of their visit.

Please note that the school does not currently have access to the MAVIS consent system. The Vaccination Team will provide us with a list of children for whom consent has been given prior to the session, and their nurses will also have this information available to them on the day.

If your child misses their vaccination

If your child is absent or does not receive their vaccination during their scheduled session on 24th November, there will be a further opportunity to receive the vaccination on 10th December.

Questions about the vaccination

If you have any questions about the flu vaccination, the consent process or your child’s individual circumstances, please contact the Barnet and Enfield School Vaccination Team directly on 020 8150 7505, as the school is unable to provide medical advice regarding the vaccination.
